Biography

Dahiana Candelo was admitted to the acting training at the Maastricht Theater Academy in 2016. While pursuing her studies, she also ventured into professional acting, taking on supporting roles in various (web) series and films as Baas boven baas (2017), De druk (2018), Single 39 (2019) and Loverboy (2020). Alongside her acting endeavours, she gained valuable experience through internships with renowned theater companies NTjong and De Toneelmakerij.

Dahiana graduated in 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of allowing the circumstances to hinder her trajectory, she worked to train herself as a theatre and filmmaker during the lockdowns. She received a grant through the authors’ association to create a plan for a series under the guidance of screenwriter Chris Westendorp. Additionally, she wrote and put on a full-length stage performance called Reflejo. A one-woman show that has been performed at esteemed venues.

Expanding on her acting repertoire, Dahiana appears in movies and series like Flikken Maastricht (2021), Bonnie & Clyde (2022), Gewoon mens (2022), Black Lotus (2023), De donkere bril (2023) and international productions as the Polish serie Planeta Singli (2023). But she also continued to play roles in the theater, such as a priestess who openly reveals her sexual preference in Oh my other half (2021) and a dedicated caregiver in Can I kiss you (2023). Dahiana works not only as an actress and creator but also shares her knowledge about the profession as a teacher. Between 2020 and 2023, she taught acting classes at institutions.

At the moment, Dahiana is in the post-production phase of her directorial debut TOLK, which will premiere at the Dutch Film Festival 2024. She is also working as an actress in the new Netflix comedy series Haantjes, which will be aired in the spring of 2025.
